La moda no tiene género

En el mundo de la moda las funciones del vestir han evolucionado, en sus orígenes cumplía una cuestión de protección; pero ahora la indumentaria se ha convertido en un indicador social, también responde cuestiones de pertenencia y de identidad. Hoy en día la ropa puede comunicar nuestro sentir e incluso compartir posturas políticas. Sin embargo el género también se ha construído en torno a la evolución de estas funciones, los estereotipos han creado una guía al vestir que limita la expresión de las personas ya que las prendas están construidas para cuerpos “femeninos” y “masculinos”, así como para tallas específicas en las que no todas las personas podemos identificarnos y sentirnos bien.

La ropa sin género ha llegado como una revelación a la forma tradicional de dividir la moda, ¿conoces de donde surge este movimiento?

Antes de la Revolución Industrial los hombres eran quienes adornaban su vestuario, solían agregar brillos, colores, pelucas, texturas, joyas, maquillaje etc. A partir de este periodo y de la Revolución Francesa los hombres pasan por un suceso conocido como La Gran Renuncia, en el que dejan de lado la extravagancia y se enfocan en prendas más prácticas y simplificadas. Desde ese momento las mujeres son quienes se adornarán y quienes serán las encargadas de mostrar la posición social de la familia a través de la ropa. Se populariza el miriñaque, los corsés. los polizones y las enaguas, y los atuendos se construyen con capas y capas de tela que se complementan con grandes sombreros y un sin fin de joyas. 

En la Primera Guerra Mundial, hubo mujeres que debieron de cambiar sus actividades y así transformar la función social con la que se les asociaba. A partir de ello era común ver a mujeres dedicarse a la cosecha o manejar maquinaria, el costo económico y social de esta participación es visto en la indumentaria, las prendas se vuelven más cómodas y ergonómicas. Mientras que hay mujeres obligadas a este cambio, las mujeres en clases sociales privilegiadas tenían la opción de cambiar a su manera, un día podían vestir con faldas amplias y al día siguiente tener la elección de vestir cómodas. El simple hecho de decidir cómo vestir fue un reflejo de los privilegios de clase que disfrutaban las mujeres de la época.   

La primera aparición de la ropa sin género se vió en 1910 cuando la sastería tradicionalmente masculina se fue incorporando a los atuendos de las mujeres. Los primeros trajes femeninos se componían de faldas largas con botines, cuello largo y guantes; eran prendas rectas y no entalladas que mezclaban elementos femeninos y masculinos. Los locos años veinte son la clave para entender el surgimiento de esta indumentaria, las “garçonne”, reforzadas por Coco Chanel, representan a la mujer activa, que maneja su auto, que es empresaria y que puede competir con los hombres. El estilo “garçonne”, mostró como objetivo eliminar el sesgo de género en la ropa. Estas mujeres comenzaron a usar pantalones, que habían sido anteriormente un símbolo de la ropa de hombre, así como siluetas sencillas con caídas y líneas rectas. También usaban el cabello muy corto, algo inusual para las mujeres de esa época. En la década de los sesenta, la contracultura hace un llamado a la sensibilidad humana y le da la oportunidad a los hombres de expresarse y estar en contacto con su lado femenino sin perder la identidad. Es así como la indumentaria sufre una evolución y en la etapa tardía del siglo XX comienzan a aparecer celebridades con aspecto andrógino como David Bowie, Tilda Swinton o Prince.

La masculinidad y feminidad que antes eran dimensiones completamente opuestas utilizadas para clasificar el sexo de las personas, actualmente pueden convivir  de forma armoniosa en un cuerpo. Hoy, la moda es divertida, diferente, libre y de todos los gustos.

No es despedirse de la masculinidad o feminidad, es liberarnos de estereotipos y vestir lo que nos haga sentir bien; es olvidar el anticuado concepto de lo binario y evitar etiquetas, roles y categorías. 

Los componentes de la moda como cabello, calzado o maquillaje tampoco debe limitarnos, podemos encontrar emocionantes looks en marcas mexicanas con diseñadoras como Carla Fernández, Guillermo Jester o en la marca Barragán Collections.
