No se cuenta con una definición compartida sobre la violencia en el noviazgo, nosotras entenderemos por violencia en el noviazgo, cualquier tipo de violencia o acoso psicológico, físico o sexual perpetrado por un compañero(a) de citas ya sea en persona o digitalmente (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014).

En México algunos datos como los obtenidos por el Instituto Mexicano de la Juventud (IMJ, 2008), han evidenciado la alta prevalencia de la violencia psicológica (76%), seguido de la violencia sexual (16.5%) y la violencia física (15%); y en el 2018 se hallaron datos superiores para la violencia sexual (73%) y física (38%) en estudiantes de secundaria y preparatoria.

Estas cifras son alarmantes y muchas veces es difícil percibir cuando nos encontramos en una relación violenta, lo cual puede deberse a distintos factores como el desconocimiento, la normalización de la violencia que se ha dado en la sociedad, la justificación que se puede llegar a hacer por los sentimientos que hay involucrados o bien, que algunos actos son más sutiles que otros -eso que llamamos micromachismos-

Otro factor importante son los cambios culturales, pues muchos de los comportamientos que desencadenan violencia también involucran a las tecnologías y redes sociales como medios que desencadenan e incrementan los celos, inseguridades y sospechas continuas ante cualquier contacto que establezca la pareja, actividades que se pueden llegar a confundir y justificar como una muestra de afecto o prueba de amor.

Rojas-Solís, J.L. y Romero-Méndez en el 2022 llevaron a cabo una investigación sobre la violencia en el noviazgo, la cual arrojó que todas las modalidades de la violencia evaluadas fueron percibidas más graves por las chicas (violencia psicológica: indirecta verbal y control aislamiento; y violencia física y sexual: directa severa).

Ahora bien, respecto a los tipos de violencia que se pueden dar dentro de una relación amorosa, María Muñoz Rivas, Pilar Gonzales Lozano, Liria Fernández Gózales y Sandra Fernández Ramos en su manual práctico de “violencia en el noviazgo –realidad y prevención” señalan que son los siguientes:

1.-VIOLENCIA FÍSICA: Es el tipo de violencia que más prevalece en la población adolescente y ocurre cuando dentro de la relación ocurren conductas activas (lanzar cosas, empujones, golpes, contener físicamente a la otra persona, patear, intentar ahorcar), como conductas pasivas (privar de atención médica, no advertir intencionalmente de situaciones que impliquen riesgo físico para la persona).

2.-VIOLENCIA PSICOLÓGICA: Se considera que hay violencia psicológica cuando se utilizan métodos verbales o psicológicos con la intención de herir emocionalmente, controlar, intimidar u obligar, esto puede ser a través de humillaciones, descalificaciones en público o privado, aislamiento social, económico, celos, amenazas de maltrato, daño a objetos de la víctima, amenazas de abandono, culpabilización y responsabilización a la víctima.

Este tipo de violencia es más silenciosa que las otras, lo cual ocasiona que no reciba tanta atención de la sociedad y no haya tantos estudios sobre esta que puedan medir su nivel de severidad y sus efectos, dificultando así la creación de métodos que prevengan la agresión psicológica.

3.-VIOLENCIA SEXUAL: Hay violencia sexual cuando se utilizan medidas de intimidación contra la pareja a fin de mantener actos sexuales en contra de su voluntad, esto también para ejercer un mayor poder sobre la otra persona.

Se considera que hay tres subtipos de agresión sexual: presión verbal, intoxicar a la pareja con sustancias con el propósito de tener relaciones sexuales y ejercer fuerza física o control.

La agresión sexual va desde el empleo de presión y amenazas verbales hasta el uso de la fuerza física con la intención de mantener algún tipo de acto sexual, pues es importante señalar que violencia sexual no es solo cuando hay coito.

La creencia totalmente errónea de que la mujer “debe” realizar actos sexuales con su pareja como si fuera una obligación, ha contribuido a que muchas de las mujeres accedan a mantener relaciones sexuales con su pareja en contra de su voluntad, sin que consideren que están sufriendo una agresión sexual.

Somos libres de decidir cuando queremos y cuando no queremos mantener relaciones, no importa si se trata de nuestra pareja, pues no tiene ningún poder sobre nosotras y se trata de una forma de maltrato.

Señales que nos pueden ayudar a identificar la violencia sexual:

-La pareja rebasa los límites que ponemos.

-Si anteriormente ya había un “no” por respuesta a la propuesta de mantener actos sexuales y se insiste.

-si existe condicionamiento del amor (por ejemplo, cuando la otra persona no obtiene lo que quiere y se comporta distante contigo o te ignora, quitándote “su cariño”)

-si existe chantaje por parte de la pareja. (“si no sucede, entonces no me quieres”)

Las relaciones amorosas suelen vivirse con mucha intensidad emocional y en ocasiones esto puede llevarnos a minimizar los episodios violentos, y las consecuencias de los comportamientos agresivos, las cuales pueden afectar bastante, deteriorando nuestra autoestima, contribuyendo a la aparición de problemas graves como la ansiedad, depresión, ideas suicidas, así como también una afectación en el rendimiento.

La visión “romántica” del amor, las creencias de que “el amor lo puede todo”, que “con el tiempo y amor se puede cambiar a la pareja”, así como un excesivo romanticismo, puede contribuir a que las víctimas que se encuentren en esta situación crean que sus problemas son pasajeros y mantengan la esperanza de que todo cambiará.

Es por esto, que la información sobre los distintos tipos de violencia es tan importante, pues si contamos con la información necesaria podemos ayudar a identificarla, prevenirla o bien, ayudar a alguien que esté pasando por esto.
